The expensive tow is the wrong one. A driver on your account checks a plate against live permits at the property they are standing in, gets one unambiguous answer, and that answer is recorded whether they tow or drive away.

One answer, not a judgement call
Active, expired, revoked, wrong property, or nothing on file. A driver at 2am should be reading a verdict, not interpreting a list.
Scoped to the lot they are in
A valid permit at another property reads as wrong property, not as a pass. Drivers can be limited to the sites they actually patrol.
A record you can produce later
Every check is kept, and every tow gets its own record: photos, GPS, the driver, and a frozen copy of what the permit check returned at that moment. Permits change; the snapshot does not. A dispute weeks later is answered from the record rather than from memory.
Truck-mounted plate readers
Coming soonToday a driver types the plate or scans it with the phone camera, and the match already tolerates the characters OCR gets wrong. Fixed and truck-mounted readers are not wired up yet — neither the capture nor the verdict engine that would turn a read into an answer without a driver typing it.
